
Jeff Hook is an accomplished law enforcement and public safety leader with more than 35 years of experience guiding complex organizations through operational, cultural, and structural transformation. His career spans frontline policing, executive‑level leadership, major capital project oversight, and organizational change management—bringing a deep understanding of how agencies evolve, adapt, and deliver effective public safety services.
Jeff served a decade as Chief Deputy of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, where he directed daily operations for a 586‑person agency and managed an $86 million operating budget along with capital budgets ranging from $6 million to $155 million. In this role, he led a major organizational shift from autocratic to dispersed leadership, strengthened staff well‑being initiatives, oversaw personnel hiring and evaluation systems, and guided policy, training, and operational standards across divisions. His leadership also extended to a $150 million construction project, where he oversaw needs evaluation, design, budgeting, political engagement, and community communication.
Most recently, Jeff served as Interim Chief of Police for the Sun Prairie Police Department, leading the 85‑person agency through a period of significant transition. He assessed organizational needs, rebuilt internal and external trust, enhanced transparency, and established a new leadership structure—including appointing an Assistant Chief, Lieutenants, Sergeants, a Detective, and new officers. His work strengthened relationships with city departments, elected officials, and the community.
Jeff’s expertise includes organizational and cultural change, crisis leadership, policy and procedure development, staffing analysis, budget development and control, risk management, investigations, and continuous process improvement. His career reflects a consistent focus on building strong relationships across community, political, and law enforcement partners at the local, state, and federal levels.
In addition to his public sector leadership, Jeff has provided consulting and investigative services to law enforcement agencies and has experience in real estate, further demonstrating his versatility and commitment to community engagement.
Jeff holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Behavioral Sciences & Law and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, completed Leadership in Police Organizations, and participated in GE’s Leadership for Customers program. His community involvement includes service on the Mount Horeb Police Commission, Finance & Personnel Committee, and multiple leadership committees.
