Julianne Ortman is an attorney licensed to practice law in Minnesota and Florida. Her areas of practice include Business Law and Litigation; she has tried numerous cases to judges and juries. She is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar. After winning two very high-profile legal cases, Ms. Ortman was elected to the Carver County Board of Commissioners and then elected for 4 terms in the Minnesota State Senate. Ms. Ortman broke new ground in Minnesota as the first woman to serve as Chair of the powerful Senate Tax Committee, while also serving as Deputy Majority Leader. She also served for 12 years on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which hears all legal, courts and justice-related policy and budget legislation. In the Senate she was best known as a strong orator and public speaker, and as an advocate for criminal justice protections for the mentally ill, Second Chance opportunities, and Expungement legislation.

Ms. Ortman served as a member of Sheriff Rich Stanek’s Command Staff in the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office from 2007-2018. Within the Leadership Team, she served first as Finance Director (managing the $85 million annual budget, capital improvement planning, and federal and state grants) and later as Chief of Staff (with responsibility for government relations, communications, strategic planning, community engagement, policy development and non-criminal legal matters) from 2015-2018. She joined Sheriff Grady Judd’s legal team in Polk County, Florida in 2019.

After recently retiring from public service, Ms. Ortman has joined Falcon, Inc. as a Senior Expert and Director of Government Relations, and brings all of this governmental, administrative, and operational knowledge to our Falcon Team.
